6/12/2023 0 Comments The ship of magicThere is a lot of philosophy, you can find real life dilemmas and you can ponder on them for long, as there is no easy answer. This is not a funny, carefree, happy story, but one with jagged turns, painful and cathartic. Sometimes hardships look inevitable, other times wrongness feels so injust and so hard to fight against. The morality and the choices here are hard. If I could describe the essence of this book in a word I would say “grey”. I can’t say I didn’t want to read a specific story even though I was more anxious to see what would happen to another protagonist. It has multiple narrators and the ones we spend more time on, we get to like for sure. You can clearly recognize the mastery of this book, it can’t be denied. It’s hard not to give 5/5 and truthfully I don’t give such a score often.

The communion between reviewer and his public is based upon the presumption of certain possible joys in reading, and all our discriminations should curve toward that end. For thirteen months the town of Point Pleasant is gripped by a real-life nightmare culminating in a tragedy that makes headlines around the world. Better to praise and share than blame and ban. Sure it's his and not yours? To these concrete five might be added a vaguer sixth, having to do with maintaining a chemical purity in the reaction between product and appraiser.Review the book, not the reputation. If the book is judged deficient, cite a successful example along the same lines, from the author's oeuvre or elsewhere. Go easy on plot summary, and do not give away the ending. Confirm your description of the book with quotation from the book, if only phrase-long, rather than proceeding by fuzzy precis. In harrowing detail, the book explains the process of beef slaughter and confirms almost every urban myth about what in fact ""lurks between those sesame seed buns."" Given the estimate that the typical American eats three hamburgers and four orders of french fries each week, and one in eight will work for McDonald's in the course of their lives, few are exempt from the insidious impact of fast food. The second half looks at the product itself: where it is manufactured (in a handful of enormous factories), what goes into it (chemicals, feces) and who is responsible (monopolistic corporate executives). The first part of the book details the postwar ascendance of fast food from Southern California, assessing the impact on people in the West in general. Schlosser's incisive history of the development of American fast food indicts the industry for some shocking crimes against humanity, including systematically destroying the American diet and landscape, and undermining our values and our economy. 6/11/2023 0 Comments Blood Alley by David WisehartBlood Alley (The Highwayman Book 1) Kindle edition by David Wisehart. All had endured the slaughter, the coughing of the guns, the bones and barbed wire, the white faces of the dead. Three as army surgeons dealt for the duration with the agonies of the dying. Six had been severely wounded, two others nearly died of disease at the Front, one was hospitalized twice with shell shock. Of the twenty-six British climbers who, on three expedtions (1921-24), walked 400 miles off the map to find and assault the highest mountain on Earth, twenty had seen the worst of the fighting. If the quest for Mount Everest began as a grand imperial gesture, as redemption for an empire of explorers that had lost the race to the Poles, it ended as a mission of regeneration for a country and a people bled white by war.
